SEBASTIEN COL TO START THE MATCH RACING SEASON WITH THE Y’S CUP

Marseille, France - 2008-02-15

For the 3rd year, the Yachting Club de la Pointe Rouge (YCPR) in Marseille, organizes the Y’s Cup, an international Match Racing Grade 3 event.
This regatta will be held on February 16-17 2008 on Marseille’s South race course.
The competitors who will be there this year are exceptional, as three of them are in the top 10 world match racing ranking.

So we will see on Marseille’s race course: Sebastien COL, ranked 4th, (he was the helmsman of Areva Challenge in the last America’s Cup). Sebastien COL, who is a member of the French Match Racing team, just joined YCPR’s match racing programme; Evgeny NEUGODNIKOV from Russia, ranked 7th and who took part to the 2 first editions; Pierre Antoine MORVAN, ranked 9th, a young competitor from the French team with a huge progression in the past months.
There will also be another Russian competitor, Andrew ARBUZOV, Jelle ROOS from the Netherlands, Sébastien DESTREMAU for Australia, and the other French Victor LANIER, Michel COHEN, Maxime PAUL and Bertrand PACE.

Concerning the 2 last skippers taking part to the competition, their sailing prize lists are incredible. Maxime Paul, a member of YCPR, after an Olympic career in 470 dinghy and international podiums in Melges 24 or Mumm 30, is today one of the best French match racers. And Bertrand PACE, who is also an international and recognized match racing competitor. He took part several times to the America’s Cup, as a helmsman or a tactician for the best teams. For example, he was part of BMW Oracle Racing with Chris DICKSON during the last America’s Cup in Valencia.

Some of those crews are in Marseille since Wednesday and have been training with the J80. The French Sailing Federation also chose Marseille for a training session for the French team.
The winner of the Y’s CUP gets its entry for an even more prestigious event, organized from March 11-15 by the YCPR: the MARSEILLE INTERNATIONAL MATCH RACING, a Grade 1 event. Places for the MIMR are limited, so this week-end’s duals will be tough.
