ALL4ONE in match against TEAMORIGIN on day 8

ALL4ONE STILL IN THE RACE TO TAKE A BERTH IN THE SEMI FINALS OF THE LOUIS VUITTON TROPHY AUCKLAND

Auckland, New Zealand - 2010-03-17

The match of the day:
Approximately 20 knots of wind on the race course of the Louis Vuitton Trophy Auckland today. The objective was to protect the right of the race course, but ALL4ONE had to start leeward of TeamOrigin on starboard tack. Favourable wind and good boat handling from the British Team enabled them to keep that position until the layline and to take a sufficient advantage that they managed to keep all the way until the end.
TeamOrigin leads at the first mark with a 17 seconds advantage. The first downwind leg does not change much of the separation (20 sec). On the second upwind beat ALL4ONE looses a bit thanks to a good match racing control of TeamOrigin, who rounds the 3rd mark with 37 seconds of lead. ALL4ONE manages to come back on the last downwind leg and crosses the finish line 27 seconds behind. The satisfaction of the day comes from the crew who did good manoeuvres despite strong winds.

Olivier Douillard, Traveller - afterguard: “we will be able to take part to the elimination round 2 tomorrow, thanks to our ranking in the Round Robin, which gives us a second chance to take a berth in the semi finals. We are consistent since the beginning of this competition without having made big mistakes, it is all about small details we need to improve, and we will be better tomorrow.”

Coming up next in the competition:
According to the format used in the Louis Vuitton Trophy Auckland, all teams sailed a full Round Robin where each team sailed every other team once to determine a ranking used in the following stages of the event.

Today the teams sailed in the “Elimination Round One”, that is to say 4 matches using the rankings from the RR. So 1st vs 8th, 2nd vs 7th, and so on. The two highest ranked (using the RR ranking) teams that won their matches in this round advanced directly to the semi finals (Emirates Team New Zealand and Mascalzone Latino). The two lowest ranked teams (using the RR ranking) that lost their matches in this round are eliminated (Aleph and Synergy).

The last step before the semi finals will be the “Elimination Round Two” tomorrow, where the four remaining teams are paired up and race for the two remaining semi final berths, with the winner from each pair advancing and the loser eliminated.

ALL4ONE chose to race against Azzurra tomorrow, thanks to its 3rd place in the Round Robin giving ALL4ONE the priority to choose its opponent.
Elimination Round 2 will be a first to win 2 points.
