Korea Match Cup : starting tomorrow!

Gyeonggi, South Korea - 2009-06-02

No time to stop, the World Match Racing Tour´s "caravan" left Langenargen in Germany yesterday, to fly directly to the Korea Match Cup 2nd edition, in Gyeonggi, South Korea.

The 3rd stage of the World Match Racing Tour will take place there from tomorrow till Sunday.

Sebastien Col, Gilles Favennec, Christian Scherrer, Christophe Andre and Erwan Israel are the winners from 2008, they will now defend their title.

The other skippers taking part are : Ben Ainslie (winner in Germany), Mathieu Richard, Philippe Presti, Ian Williams, Adam Minoprio, Torvar Mirsky, Peter Gilmour, Paolo Cian, Bjorn Hansen, Byeong Ki Park et Laurie Jury.

The event is part of the Korea International Boat Show, and the organisers are expecting even more spectators than last year (350,000 people were there!), moreover, last year´s construction-zone disappeared, and this year the venue has come together into a word-class marina. With boat show´s outdoors displays and jumbo TV’s showing the match racing action, along with a 200m pier that overlooks the racing area, the show will be a crowd pleaser for sure.

Teams will sail KM36 boats, lighter than the Bavaria Match 35 from Langenargen, with generous sail plans and huge asymmetric spinnakers, so crew work will be at its premium.
